What is Lipedema Treatment ?
What is a Lipedema?
Lipedema is a condition that occurs when fat in the lower part of the body accumulates under the skin irregularly. It is more common in women. It generally affects legs and sometimes arms. When lipedema happens, you may feel pain and tenderness in the affected areas.
Lipedema affects equally both sides of the body. It may cause knock knees, flat feet, and some joint problems that make walking hard. Your skin's texture looks like orange peel in the affected parts.
As a result of lipedema, you may experience bruises in the affected parts of your body. Lipedema is a problem that occurs when the lymphatic system doesn't work well. Mostly, edema and lymphoedema accompany lipedema.
How Much is a Lipedema Treatment in Turkey?
Lipedema is a condition that has different stages. The more advanced it is, the more complicated the treatment. So, the price of lipedema treatment depends on the approach.
It may be a conservative treatment or consist lipedema surgery. The average price of a lipedema surgery in Turkey is $ 3000 US.
How to Treat Lipedema?
After the first appointment with the doctor, the doctor decides how advanced is your lipedema stage. Lipedema stages determine the treatment of lipedema. Doctors offer two main options to treat lipedema: conservative and surgical treatments.
Manual lymph drainage, compression therapy, physiotherapy, and a diet program that brings a healthy weight may solve the problem of the patients in the first stages. In the severe stages of lipedema, doctors need more intense approaches that include surgery. These treatment methods are:
The liposuction
Liposuction is a very effective way to get rid of excess fat in the body. Patients with advanced stages or who can't get the results after losing weight may consider this treatment option.
Vaser (vibration amplification of sound energy at resonance) liposuction is a common technique that uses ultrasound waves to break up and liquefy fat cells.
Lipedema Reduction Surgery
Surgeons perform this surgery on severe lipedema patients who cannot walk because of the excess fat accumulated in their legs. The basic of this surgery is removing the excess fat tissue from the legs.
Vascular Care
Although vascular care is not one of the most popular treatment options for lipedema, it may solve some problems after four steps of treatment.
-
"Micro Plus" Micro Plus is an electrotherapy device that renews and repairs the connective tissues and increases blood circulation.
-
"Vacuuming" This method clears the blocked arteries.
-
"Bioresonance therapy" This therapy fixes the electric system in veins.
-
"Plasma treatment" This treatment uses injections prepared with the patient's blood and uses them to repair the damaged parts of the body.
How do you Know if You Have Lipedema?
There are many ways to diagnose lipedema. After having a clinical examination and giving several tests, your doctor tells you if you have lipedema or not.
The main imaging tests are:
MRI
Ultrasound
Lymphangiography
The signs that generally address lipedema are:
Abnormal fat accumulates in the legs and hips and sometimes in the arms.
Affected parts of the body are tender and tend to bruise easily.
Patients may have very soft and loose skin on the affected areas of their bodies.
Even after losing weight, lower limbs keep enlarging.
How Long Does It Take To Recover From Lipedema Treatment?
The recovery of lipedema treatment depends on the treatment. If a patient undergoes conservative treatment, there is no recovery time. These kinds of methods for lipedema treatment take time to fix the problems.
A patient who has surgery for lipedema treatment may think that the recovery takes a few weeks.
What to Expect After Lipedema Treatment?
Different methods treat lipedema. After getting the proper treatment, a patient should maintain a healthy weight. There are wearable products that feature compression, and patients may wear such kinds of socks or leggings to prevent pain that causes lipedema.
Lipedema is not curable, and because of that, the patients should try to manage the distressing and uncomfortable lipedema symptoms.
How Painful is a Lipedema Treatment?
If patients have lipedema surgery, they don't feel pain because they are under general anesthesia. If they feel pain after the surgery, surgeons can control it with post-operative medications.
Non-surgical lipedema treatments are not painful for many patients. However, some patients may feel tenderness and pain during massage therapies.
Who is a Suitable Candidate for Lipedema Treatment?
Patients who can't fix the problems that lipedema causes even after losing weight and doing exercises may think of different treatments for lipedema.
Are There Any Risks or Side Effects of Lipedema Treatment?
Depending on the treatment that fixes the condition, there may be some risks. Procedures like liposuction or lipedema reduction surgery carry the risks that general anesthesia brings.
In addition to the possible side effects of anesthetics, liposuction brings the risk of numbness, infection, fat embolism, and fluid accumulation.
What Is The Difference Between Lipedema and Cellulite?
Lipedema and cellulite are very similar in appearance, but lipedema is a medical condition, and cellulite is much more of a cosmetic problem.
What Is The Difference Between Lipedema and Lymphedema?
Lipedema and lymphedema are both medical conditions. Lipedema is a condition that happens when excess fat accumulates under the skin in the legs or arms. Lymphedema is the accumulation of fluid in the tissues that causes swelling in the area where the problem occurs.
Lymphedema doesn't cause tenderness in the affected areas. Unlike lipedema, lymphedema may affect the parts of the body differently. In severe cases of lymphedema, the skin color changes, and it gets darker.
