The first weeks after gastric sleeve surgery are exciting — but they can also feel a little confusing.

Almost every patient asks the same questions in the first 1–3 months:

          “Am I losing enough weight?”

          “Why do I feel tired?”

          “Is this normal?”

So we wanted to create a simple guide based on the most common real questions we receive from our NewMe patients — with the support and guidance of our dietitian, Cemre Yamener

If you are in your early post-op journey, this blog is for you 🤍

          1. “Am I losing weight fast enough?”

This is the #1 question we hear.

The truth is: weight loss is not the same for everyone.

Your body, metabolism, starting weight, hormones, and daily habits all play a role.

Some patients lose quickly in the first month.

Others lose more steadily — and both can be completely normal.

One of our patients recently lost 26 kg in 3 months and still felt it was “slow.”

It wasn’t slow at all — it was a great result.

✨ Focus on progress, not comparison.

          2. “Why do I feel tired or low-energy?”

Feeling tired in the first months is very common.

Your body is healing, adjusting to much less food, and learning a new routine.

          The most common reasons are:

          • Not enough water intake

          • Low protein

          • Vitamin or iron levels dropping

          • Doing too much too soon

          Cemre always reminds patients:

Hydration + protein are your daily priorities.

          3. “I’m not eating much — is that okay?”

Yes. In the first weeks, it’s normal to only tolerate:

          • protein shakes

          • clear soups

          • soft foods

          Your stomach is still healing.

The goal is not large meals — the goal is small, safe, consistent nutrition.

          4. “Should I get blood tests after surgery?”

          In many cases, yes.

We often recommend follow-up blood work to check:

          • Iron

          • B12

          • Vitamin D

          • Hemoglobin

          • General recovery markers

Especially if you feel weak, dizzy, or unusually tired.

Always check with your GP and your surgical team.

          5. “When can I start exercising or going to the gym?”

Gentle walking can start very early, but gym workouts should wait.

          Most patients follow this timeline:

          • Weeks 1–4: walking only

          • Weeks 4–6: light activity

          • After 6–8 weeks: gym with doctor approval

Your recovery comes first — the results will follow.

          6. “What if I feel anxious or unsure?”

This journey is not only physical — it’s emotional too.

That’s why we strongly believe in community and support.

At NewMe, patients are never alone:

          • Our dietitian follows you closely

          • Our WhatsApp Hub connects you with real post-op patients

          • You can ask questions anytime, before or after surgery

Support is part of the process, not an extra.

Final Reminder: Everybody Has Its Own Timeline

The first 3 months are full of changes.

If you are healing, showing up, and staying consistent — you are doing well.

          Don’t panic. Don’t compare.

Just keep going step by step 🤍

And remember: you are not alone in this.
