Tech Workers Opt for Limb Lengthening to Boost Height

A plastic surgeon in Las Vegas gave a jaw-dropping interview to GQ magazine:

I can increase a person's height by three inches with a painful procedure, and a significant number of my patients are employees of tech companies like Google and Amazon.”

The doctor's name is Kevin Debiparshad and he is the founder of LimbplastX, the clinic that performs the leg extension procedure in which titanium pins are implanted into the intramedullary canal of the bone.

Although it is a serious surgery, it is usually performed with a one-inch incision and three 1/2-inch incisions for femoral lengthening.

It requires two additional small incisions to implant the tibial lengthening device, which must be done later if the patient wants to be six inches taller.

$70,000 to $150,000 Depending On How Many Inches The Patient Wants To Grow

The operation involves breaking the femur to insert the pins and lengthen them a small amount each day using a magnetic system. The desired height (three to six inches) is reached.

The process takes about a year before it starts finishing. After which the pins are removed at an additional cost of $14,000 to $20,000.”

I Even Have Patients From Paypal

paypal"I'm joking about starting a tech company," the doctor told GQ, adding: "I have 20 software engineers right now here in Vegas doing this.

Yesterday there was a girl from PayPal.  I have patients from Google, Amazon, and Facebook. I have had multiple patients from Microsoft.”

In recent news, it has come to light that some tech employees from major companies like Amazon and Google are turning to limb lengthening surgery to increase their height. Let's explore this unconventional trend and understand the basics of this unique procedure.

1. What is Limb Lengthening Surgery?

Limb lengthening surgery is a procedure that aims to increase a person's height. It involves the use of internal devices like lengthening devices and external fixators, performed by orthopedic surgeons.

2. The Lengthening Process Explained

During the surgery, the orthopedic surgeon cuts the bone and inserts a lengthening device. This device gradually extends the bone, promoting bone growth over time.

3. Importance of Physical Therapy

To ensure a successful outcome, patients often undergo physical therapy. This helps in maintaining the range of motion, strengthening muscles and tendons, and supporting the overall recovery process.

4. Why Are Tech Employees Choosing This?

Surprisingly, a notable number of employees from tech giants like Amazon and Google are opting for this procedure. Reasons may vary from personal preferences to societal pressures and job-related concerns, including potential job cuts.

5. The Cost and Recovery

The surgery comes with a significant cost, ranging from $70,000 to $150,000, depending on the desired height increase. Despite the complexity of the procedure, patients can often return to their normal life within a few weeks after surgery.

6. Potential Risks and Considerations

While the surgery is generally safe, it's essential to consider potential risks such as impacts on soft tissues, blood vessels, and the consolidation phase during the recovery process.

7. Unusual Cases: Amazon Employee Statistics

Reports suggest that even employees from major tech companies like Amazon, with its massive workforce of over 12,000 employees, have sought limb lengthening surgery. This unexpected trend raises questions about societal standards and the factors influencing such decisions.

The increasing interest in limb lengthening surgery among tech employees sheds light on the diverse reasons people choose to undergo such procedures.

As the debate around physical appearance and professional life continues, these unconventional choices prompt discussions on individual choices and societal expectations.
