How gastric botox works
Botulinum toxin relaxes muscle. Injected into the stomach wall - usually the upper part (fundus) and the outlet (antrum) - it slows the muscle contractions that push food onward. Food stays in the stomach longer and some patients produce less of the hunger hormone ghrelin, so portions get smaller more easily. It starts working within a few days and fades as the nerves recover.
