Best bariatric surgeons in Istanbul, compared

There is no single “best” bariatric surgeon in Istanbul, and no honest site can rank them for you. What you can do is compare surgeons on facts you can check: a named surgeon on the Ministry of Health’s HealthTürkiye register with a surgical specialty, a licensed hospital with the right facilities, a written itemised quote, and a clear plan for follow-up after you fly home. This guide explains each check, then lists the verified gastric sleeve surgeons in Istanbul on &NewMe, in alphabetical order and without prices.

Search results and social media often use “best” to mean “most advertised”. A better definition is a surgeon who passes the same six checks for you as for anyone else.

1. A named surgeon with a verifiable record. Look the surgeon up on the HealthTürkiye professionals register and confirm the specialty (general surgery, with bariatric or obesity surgery experience). A clinic name without a named surgeon is a warning sign.
2. Bariatric experience, not only years in practice. Ask how many gastric sleeve operations the surgeon performs in a typical year and how complications are handled. The number matters less than a straight answer.
3. The hospital, not only the surgeon. Confirm the hospital’s Ministry of Health licence and that it has intensive care and the specialists needed if something goes wrong. If a hospital claims JCI or another accreditation, check it on the accreditor’s own list rather than on the hospital’s website.
4. A written, itemised quote. It should name the surgeon and hospital and list nights in hospital, anaesthesia, tests, medication, transfers and what is not included.
5. A follow-up plan. Who do you contact after you return home, in which language, and what is covered if a complication appears? Ask for this in writing.

• Nights in hospital and whether hotel nights, transfers and medication are inside the price.
• Pre-operative tests, anaesthesia and the dietitian or follow-up plan.
• What happens in a complication: who treats it, where, and who pays.
• Deposit amount, who receives it and the refund rules.
• Languages the surgeon and coordinator speak with you.

• Which hospital will I be in, and what intensive-care and emergency cover does it have?
• Who will see me after the operation, and who can I contact when I am home?
• Are there medical reasons I might not be suitable, and what tests do you need first?
• What is included in the price and what costs extra?
• What do you do if I have a complication after I return home?

Accreditation such as JCI is a hospital-level quality mark, and it is not the same as a surgeon’s qualification. If a hospital advertises it, look it up on the accrediting body’s public list and check the exact hospital name and campus. Hospitals can be part of a group where only one campus is accredited.
